Cancun Information and Tourism: Aerial photo of the beachfrontLying next Mexico's easterly coastline and directly north of Cozumel, Cancun International Airport (CUN) operates two terminals, with Terminal 2 (FBO) handling all international flights and Terminal 1 (MAIN) handling charter flights only. The airport is located around 20 km / 12 miles south-west of central Cancun and within the state of Quintana Roo.

Passengers flying into Cancun Airport are invariably holidaymakers, but a reasonable percentage of the 13 million people who pass through the facility every year are business travellers. The number of flights are rapidly increasing and predicted to more than double over the next few years, when they will exceed 500 per day. Cozumel International Airport ranks as Latin America's number four in terms of overall traffic and is currently enjoying a major expansion program.

Next to the Autopista Mérida-Cancún and the Avenida Tulúm, Cancun International Airport can be easily reached by road. Public buses run to areas of Mexico's Riviera Maya and the main districts around central Cancun, such as downtown (Ciudad Cancún) and the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera). Private companies provide the remaining ground transfer options, with taxis and shuttles running to popular hotels and beachfront resorts, such as the Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Tulum.

About Cancun Tourism

Cancun is Mexico's main Caribbean resort and it has much to offer holidaymakers in the way of natural and manmade beauty as well as relaxation and indulgence. The area is famed for its fantastic beaches, such as Playa Tortugas, Las Perlas and Playa Chacmool, all of which lie on the eastern coast of Cancun and offer golden sand, crystal clear waters and the true spirit of a tropical coastal location.

Many superb beaches are only a short drive from Cancun Airport (CUN) itself and offer superb conditions for both scuba diving and snorkelling alike. Also popular are the markets at Avenida Tulum, such as the Mercado Municpal Ki-Huicm, which boasts a wealth of shops and stalls selling all manner of local produce and souvenirs. Nightlife in Cancun is a lively affair and visitors will find busy bars and discos as well as some fantastic restaurants dishing up the mouth-watering local cuisine.
